Law of Conservation of Matter is that mass cannot be created/destroyed, although it may be rearranged in space, and changed into different types of particles.

So recyclable items can be melted down or processed in some way (and aren’t destroyed) and are turned into other items. Example: aluminum cans are melted down and can be turned to new cans.
