Some neighborhoods in Chicago have finally caught up to most American cities and states by instituting a municipal recycling program. With real recycling bins! And real trucks that are separate from the normal trucks!

Christmas tree recycling offered through Jan. 10
Last year’s event pulled in more than 1,000 trees across the county. “It’s not that we are saying live trees are better or worse,” said Keep Jackson County Beautiful executive director Susan Trepagnier. “We just would like to make sure we have no trees going into the landfill.”

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling will recycle Christmas trees for free and turn them into mulch.
