Actually the US is the only country in the world that does not recycle its fuel.

To answer this, you need to know that it’s half life is the time it would take a substance to decay to the point where it’s radioactive emission is down to half of what it was originally (say from 1600ron/hr down to 800ron/hr) If we say that we need to wait for it to drop to a particular level to handle and (for example only) that level is less than 88ron/hr then that is 4.6 half lifes using my somewhat rubbery figures. Take a half life of 1800 yrs and we’re looking at 7500 years down the track. By then one would hope they’ve worked out a better way to process it.
