    1) I only recycle what they pick up from my house:newspapers cans, glasses, pizza once a month, or if I’m out and they having recycling bins I’ll through plastic glass into them
    2) yeah, probably everyone has bought stuff that uses recycled materials. Not everything that uses recycled material says so if it isn’t entirely recycled material. But I don’t go out of my way to recycle

I think the way recycling is handled and talked about does a lot of harm. Recycling should be something that is done by producers and garbage collects rather than have it come across as it’s something individuals should be putting effort into to help the environment. By making it somehting individuals think they should do to help the environment it does perhaps a lot more harm than good because then people’s worries about harming the environment are appeased by recycling. While recycling may be better than not recycling, all it really does it slightly slow down that rate at which we are filling up this planet with harmful chemical that will be around for 1000s of years and thus all it really does is enable pollution. Thus by appeasing people’s worries about harming the environment telling themselves that they did their part they recycled, all recycling is really do largely is enabling pollution. It’s not that I’m against recycling as it is I’m against the idea that telling people to “do your part and recycle” is sending the wrong message because recycling isn’t any environmental sollution.

People should realize recycling isn’t any environmental solution. It takes energy to recycle materials and anything that is recycled gets downregulated into material that isn’t as pure as what it was recycled from. No material gets recycled back into the same material it was. What we should be doing is not producing environmentally harmful materials like plastics in the 1st place and focus on developing biodegradable materials instead. For example they’ve been developing material from mushroom roots to use to replace styrofoam.

Look up the great pacific garbage patch and POPs(persistant Organic Pollutants) and it should become obvious why we should be producing plastics and other environmentally harmful chemicals at all. I would suggest reading Cradle to Cradle or checking out their documentary http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyciEjLtiCM
