More Waste

Nobody’s perfect. I do wasteful things all the time. Still, some things are just too much.
I normally batch up my small parts purchases, but I really wanted some small nylon washers, and needed nothing else at the time.
What did I get:
1) A corrugated box, with text pointing out that it was recyclable.
2) A thick layer of perforated brown paper.
3) A separate paper slip telling me that the brown paper was environmentally wonderful, but I must check through it for my product. Also the helpful text "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle".
4) A layer of tissue paper.
5) A plastic bag to hold the
6) second plastic bag.
7) An invoice.
8) 100 tiny nylon washers that would have easily fit in a standard business envelope and didn’t need protection. So much for "Reduce".
I had specifically selected USPS shipping, knowing that a small envelope or box could be dropped off along with our daily mail at the boxes a few hundred yards from our house. The size of this box meant that the mail carrier had to make an extra stop at the house just for it. Add some extra gasoline to all the packaging materials.
