Signal Flags – free form embroidery on recycled silk

Free form embroidery on a small piece of silk from a recycled upholstery sample book. Size aprox 5 x 7 inches. This is embroidered with "craft cord" or craft thread – not traditional 6 ply embroidery thread. The craft cord is easy to work with and makes a bold line (similar to embroidering with all 6 strands of regular embroidery thread). For free form embroidery I start by stitching a few shapes – here I started with the 3 circles, and then I add on where ever I feel the piece needs it. It is like doodling ( VERY SLOWLY). I enjoy not following a preset line, changing colors as I please and I especially enjoy NOT stitching lettering.
