What’s taking place in Emmet County is in line with the Michigan Municipal League’s Center for 21st Century Communities Initiative that believes there are eight key assets in making vibrant communities. One of those assets is green initiatives, such as the recycling program based between Petoskey and Harbor Springs Michigan. The League visited the complex recently as part of a video the League is making for its 112th Annual Convention Sept. 21-24, 2010, in Dearbon. The video highlights some of the great green initiatives taking place through the Great Lakes State. Emmet is particularly unique for its numerous sculptures made out of the recyclable materials collected at the center. The sculptures not only provide humorous examples of what can be done with "junk" but the items also serve as signs for community members taking materials to the recycing center.
