how to recycle diaper waste during production?

27 Sep Posted by in Recycle | 2 comments

Question by : how to recycle diaper waste during production?
the waste includes fluff and SAP
The Fluff is mainly Nitro Cellulose Wood Pulp that is used in the paper industry (Diapers, Napkins, Toilette Paper, hand Tissue, ..).
The SAP is a super absorbent that is added to improve the water absorption in the baby diapers and some types of feminine napkins.
The super absorbentt polyacrylate polymer (SAP) used in diapers is across linkeded polymer made from sodium acrylate. It is non-volatile and is considered safe for human use.
The ratio of the Sap in the recycled fluff is around 3 to 5%

  • Paul Gleeson says:

Most major adult and baby diaper companies collect and reclaim the absorbent ingredients (pulp and superabsorbent polymer) of diapers right in the manufacturing facility and reintroduce those reclaimed raw materials directly back into the production line. The equipment used is either home made or off-the-shelf commercial reclaim equipment manufactured by Laroche in France, Osprey in the US or Ibis International in the US.

There are also a number of commercial diaper reclaim companies who do the same process for diaper manufacturers who are not large enough to justify the reclaim equipment investment.

I once was employed by Johnson and Johnson where diapers and feminine products were produced and can tell you they sell it to recyclers. Separating and reusing during production would be time consuming, most unhygenic and against health regulations..
