As the number of recycling centres continues to increase, communities can expect to see greater service even with the diverse nature of this business. No matter where communities spring up, house waste recycling centres are there to help. For glass alone, the number of recycling containers has increased two fold in the last 5 years alone. Steel is expected to grow by a factor of 5, with a container for each person.

The banks now contain separate facilities for metal and plastic containers, textile items and other assorted waste in addition to the conventional paper and glass receptacles. As these centres continue to develop, more items are being first refined and sorted here before transportation to their larger counterparts where the actual process of recycling begins.

Kerbside collectors are among the most popular new innovations offered by rubbish collectors. With a separate container for recycled materials, the owners can expect a pick up once every two weeks. They are able to dispose of a wide range of materials properly. The only restriction is that any material placed into the kerbside collector has to be “clean.”

Since this system has been implemented, the amount of trash that must be hauled to landfills and other areas has been reduced significantly. More users are starting to properly sort their trash into its correct container. Of course, some separation still must occur with these containers at the waste centres as there is just not enough room to make separate types of bins for every possible type of material.

Since the public appears to be willing to help out with this campaign, the recycling centres have been deemed a success as the government tries to help reduce the amount of material that is annually dumped into landfills.

Kerbside collectors have been proven to work with the most common types of items that can be re-used such as paper, plastic and glass. However, in order to meet the demand of the current requirements, a large central facility needs to be built in several areas. By employing the standard processes such as the magnetic separation of metallic objects from other rubbish and the breakdown of substances through composting methods, the centres can complete the work quickly and efficiently.

Although the initial investment is relatively high for a plant of this nature, it may be beneficial if the amount of waste that is processed is high enough.

However, there is a choice for homeowners, and that involves the use of kerbside collectors either stationary or vehicle mounted. Using a vehicle of this type requires that operators are expected to work in all kinds of weather, must be well trained in procedures and responsible enough to complete their routes.

This type of recycling efforts are more cost effective than a central process plant, but aren’t the right fit for areas of high population or low population densities. Although no model is perfect, kerbside collectors are a viable option for those communities requiring a safe and effective recycling program.
