Question by Sally: How does the recycle center know if trash has been placed in the green waste can?
I have different pick up days for my green waste and recyclables. they alternate every other week. My son accidentally put trash in the green waste can thinking it was recyclable. On my next bill I got a 40$ charge for it. I’m not disputing it because he told he didn’t know because it was dark outside and he may have done it by accident, But my question is if the trash man isn’t physically opening the lid to see whats inside how did they know it came from my household?

They shouldn’t, in fact, what they do in the recycling plants is take out the garbage left in there by mistake by hand. I don’t understand how you got that bill. I accidentally threw garbage in the recycling can and nothing happened. Y’know, if you go to howstuffworks.com, they might tell you about the process in the recycling plant.
