13 items destined for landfill – not quite zero waste
how to recycle waste
Matthew and I committed to a "zero waste challenge" this week which meant not buying things that we knew we would throw away and go into landfill. This does not include paper which has gone to recycling or compost. Topleft, clockwise: Beer bottle caps: (homebrew bottles reused), the turkish bread wrapper was reused twice before it hit the bin, and could be reused again by a more dedicated person than me. A pie tin. I admit I forgot when I was in the local bakery. Tin foil is one of the worst offenders in horribly ephemeral use and long term waste of planetary resources. I’m still mentally whipping myself over that one. Cheese wrapper. Cheese is a problem, this Gran Padano wrapper (top right) came from the local food co-op and we’ve been using the cheese inside for about a month. I suspect this wrapper might break down if I compost it although I haven’t taken the trouble to ask. Curry paste tin. Its going to take us a long time before we can make curry paste as good as this one, but it comes in a tin. Vegemite label. The vegemite jar is being reused for visual soil testing. Pasta wrapper. Buying papadelle is pure laziness on our part as we well know how to make our own excellent pasta.
Of the 13 items only one was purchased in the week of the challenge, the pie tin, which weighs 2g. The rest were from grocery items we were part way through using.

Printer cartridges are one of the leading contributors of contamination and overflow in a nation’s dumping ground. One cartridge alone contains almost five quarts of oil.

In the European Union, hundreds of millions of cartridges are discarded each year and the number will surely increase. Since July 2005 empty cartridges have been reclassified as Hazardous Waste. Governments are now urging computer companies, individuals, manufacturers, schools and virtually everyone else who uses printer cartridges to help reduce dumping grounds by up to half, by recycling. Almost 1,400 European companies are now involved in state-of-the-art toner and inkjet remanufacturing.

Europe has some of the largest manufacturers of recycled ink cartridges. Printing services in UK bring the consumers and businesses a first class high quality product which is competitively priced and, thanks to re-using base materials, makes a major contribution to the European environment and a cleaner world.

You can choose 100% Recycled Paper for the ultimate environmental solution. Recycled Printing is also great if you want to achieve that organic look and feel. Many companies who recycle printer cartridges also provide the facility of printing on recycled papers and pamphlets.

Recycled cartridges are made from recycled waste and certain parts of used cartridges. Recycled printer cartridges come in three categories:

1- Recycled toner cartridges

2- Ink cartridges

3- Ribbon cartridges

The benefits of recycling your printer cartridges are two folds, social benefits & economic profits. By recycling printer cartridges, we conserve natural resources and energy by reducing the need for virgin materials. Up to 97 percent of the printer cartridge can consist of varying amounts of materials that can be recycled or reused if taken care of. Buying recycled printer cartridges can reduce the cost with up to 50% compared to cartridges that are made of non reused parts.

Let’s face it; eco-friendly printing is the way to go today. In spite of all the technological advancements and the promise of digital, paperless offices, printing services are still among the most sought after services. Eco-friendly leaflet printing and utilizing the flyers is one of the most effective ways to increase your business growth with minimal cost outlay. You can gain comfort of the audience in the fact that your marketing endeavors are making a minimal impact on the environment.

Comprehensive range of high quality recycled and compatible cartridges provide the consumers with alternative choices and complete satisfaction even with relatively cheap printers in UK.
