I’ve never been so organised for Mother’s day before. I am not sure she looks at my pictures, so I don’t think I’ll spoil the surprise. I’ve made her a shed for her indoor garden.

I wanted to make her a shadow box for Mother’s day in the theme of gardening, since she broke her hip in December and finds it tricky to get out there at the moment. Steve suggested instead of using a recycled tin, how about having a go at making a secret hollow book instead. After a quick hunt around the local charity shops, I found an old book about herbs that I picked up for £1.00.

After I finished hollowing it out (there’s a good guide to doing this here), I fitted the sides and a shelf with some scrap wood painted in acrylics and added some wallpaper and ribbon for decoration.

Inside the shed are some bits and bobs I picked up along the way. I hope she likes it!
