Does anyone else think recycling is a waste of time?

Question by tatimsaspas: Does anyone else think recycling is a waste of time?
Facts: The more paper we use the more money trees a worth so the more trees get planted. There are 3 times as many trees in the USA today then there were in the 20’s.____Also 60% of things put in recycling bins dont even get recylced because it is too expensive to recycle most things._____ The exhaust from machines used to recylce(collection truck included) does more damage then just making new stuff.

The only thing worth recycling is metal that is why you can sell old metal it is easier to reused old metal then to mine new metal. If recycling paper was worth it then the paper companies would pay you for your old paper like the metal companies pay you for old cans and other metals

Actually you should study the energy needed to recycle alluminum vs the energy expended in making it….alluminum is one thing we should just let go…

  • ketchuphero says:

yeah, except cans … the rest is hippy BS

Recycling is not a waste of time. You should do better research before you post your supporting details. You weaken your arguement by mixing fact with opinion.

    I think you are wrong.
Firstly you do get paid for recycled paper. Moreover, trees have a greater use than just making paper. There is also a strong connection between the number of trees felled and global warming and climate change.
Plastics need to be recycled to cut down on the amount of oil we are using or have you not noticed the price of oil recently. It will not last for ever.
You may think it is too expensive to recycle but in the end it is a false economy. Recycling is inexpensive in the long run. If you local authority deems it too expensive then they are short sighted and stupid.
Are you an American by any chance?

I think every home should have its’ own personal fusion reactor so when you get ready to throw something out, FOOF! and it’s gone…

    no

    No.

I think recycling is necessary. I was out in the middle of the ocean and observed a huge floating island of discarded plastic items – It was disgusting. Then I was walking along a beach on an uninhabited island and the beach was littered with plastic and glass and rubber items that had been discarded by humans. There were also dead sea birds with their bellies bloated by the undigested plastics they had eaten.

One use of items that are currently too expensive to recycle is to have your local government install waste-to-energy plants. A lot of discarded items can now be burned in these plants with minimal damage to the environment because of filters for the emissions. There are many locations that have mandated recycling and are replacing fossil-fuel-guzzling plants with waste-to-energy plants. I’d prefer to live in a community that thinks about the future, wouldn’t you?

Ever live in a third-world country? Ever live on an island far away from other land? In these places there is very little that is not recycled over and over and over and over. Even an old can that once contained food is used until it crumbles. In addition, third-world residents do not have the luxury of purchasing foods that are over-packaged with plastic or metal – they have minimal trash that needs recycling to begin with.

Eventually the garbage dumps will be mined for recyclables – especially plastics – because the long-chain molecules in the plastics will be needed after oil has been priced beyond the reach of most people.

  • The know it all says:

You are joking right. And correct it. More plants are not planted but are cut.
But what you say is also from one point right. We should have more proper systems. anyway only we two cant raise our voice and make it corrected, Right?
    Bye

  • Sully says:

Good points. Here’s why you should recycle: if you don’t it will get thrown out and put in the ground. We are running out of room and some things that are put into the ground leak and ruin the earth around them.

  • louise r says:

I agree with you its a waste of our energy

  • the phantom says:

    No.
