We must pass laws that keep treated water out of river, lakes, and the ocean. Sewage contains pharmaceuticals, ammonia and grow very bad forms of algae. For more information check out CoolingEarth.org California can be carbon neutral.

Recycling waste water is important because:
*It reduces water demand for purposes other than drinking
*It prevents pollution of water bodies
*It reduces the cost of production of drinking water
*It reduces consumption of electrical energy for treatment, transportation and distribution of water to the community
*It paves way for safe ground water recharging
*It helps to sustain healthy living conditions
*It reduces degradation of environmental conditions

LMurray, you mean UNtreated water entering our water system. Treated water is fine.

Grandema… Freshwater is growing scarce? Who told you that? The problem is that the water treatment plants cannot keep up with the demand. They can only turn on a number of main pumps before blowing a major watermain due to the pressure. Also the plants were built at a period for a certain population and it has thus exploded, thereby increasing the need also for more infrastructure and additional costs at the plant for more or larger pumps provided the existing infrastructure can sustain it.
Bear in mind, water is a constant cycle – evaporation, condensation, precipitation (repeating itself) as learned in Grades 5 or 7.
    Hope this helps!

Recycling waste water reduces the need of fresh water in instances where it can be safely used (i.e., watering lawns, plants ). Fresh water is growing more scarce as each day passes.
