Question by fury1162: What is the latest you should empty your recycling outside?
We have our recycling bins in the back of the house and our one neighbor is pretty close by. As a matter of etiquette, how late could I empty my recycling (it’s a little loud but not too much) without being kind of jerk or bad neighbor. Is 11pm too late? It’s about as loud as a neighbor being dropped off by a friend.

Personally I’d try to do it around 10. A lot of people go to bed around 10, so if it were me I’d be annoyed to be woken up only an hour later than I went to bed. Or maybe you could watch their house and see when they turn off the lights, and not do it any later than that.
What do you think? Answer below!

Most towns have noise ordinances. You may need to contact your local constabulary about your problem.
BTW… this really is not an ETIQUETTE question… but thanks for asking!
Have a polite day.
“It’s about as loud as a neighbor being dropped off by a friend.”
Unless they’re driving an excessively loud car, I fail to believe anyone other than the lightest of sleepers would wake up from someone being dropped off. Just empty your recyclables at whatever time best suites you. If your neighbor is that easily awakened, then they’ll probably get woken up by a car driving down the street anyway.
I can’t imagine emptying recycling would make enough noise to actually wake someone. I’d say if their lights are still on, they’re obviously awake and I wouldn’t worry. If their lights are off I might wait till tomorrow.
